This is my final blog post for Ed Tech. Using Google Docs I have discussed each of my critical assessments (4.13 and 6.35) and how I felt I did on each presentation. I gave a brief statement of how I felt I met the standard. The presentations themselves discussed each Web2.0 application and how I feel they can be useful to individuals and classrooms.
Below is a link to my Google Document and the table for the assessment.

4Shared.com
The following power-point presentation is about the site 4shared.com. On this web site you are able to save and share various documents that you are working on. This means you can save word documents, power-point presentations, animation, and video and not use any of the space on your own computer. 4shared.com allows you to save up to 5gb of information on their site.
This is great for teachers because they can have their students save their documents on a single web site and not on a computer which could lose the information. They could also share their information with each other and collaborate on projects.

New Oregon Diploma and Standards
As I was growing up, I watched as schools become more and more technologically advanced. I started out in elementary using floppy disks to save my work and now in college I'm using Google Docs and flash drives to save my work. It's only natural for technology to become a center piece to education which is why I'm not surprised that Oregon is now creating a standard devoted to technology and expects every student to meet these standards in order to graduate from high school. Below are a few of the standards my students will need to meet and how I can help them meet those standards in a high school setting.
1) Communication and Collaboration
Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, across the global community, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. Students:
A. Interact and collaborate with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media.
B. Effectively communicate and publish to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats.
C. Engage with learners from other cultures to develop cultural understanding and global awareness.
D. Contribute to project teams. Produce original works or solve problems in a team setting.
To meet this standard I would have my students use a combination of Skype and Teamviewer. I would have them Skype as a research tool for class. I could set them up with some of my college professors and have the students ask my professor questions about books and authors we have studied in class. They could than build presentations on an author of their choice and use teamviewer to collaborate on the project. They could all be in their homes as they worked on the project rather than relying on the schools computers.
2) Digital Citizenship
Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to digital technology and practice legal, ethical, and responsible behavior. Students:
A. Advocate and practice safe, legal, and responsible use of information and digital technology.
B. Model and practice a positive attitude toward using digital technology that supports collaboration, learning, and productivity.
C. Demonstrate personal responsibility for lifelong learning.
I think this standard could be easily met in a Social Studies classroom. They could do a research project on the history of technology and copy right laws and present it using a variety of new Web2.0 applications. This would give the students an idea of what is considered legal uses of technology and what is considered illegal.

Google Spreadsheets

First of all I would just like to say that I love Google Docs. I find it extremely useful and love that I can save any information at any time from any place. The one thing I'm not a big fan of though is the spreadsheet application. I've never had a more difficult time getting things to copy and paste and to be honest I eventually had to go to Excel to get the project done. I think with more practice I could come to like Google Spreadsheets as much as I love Google Docs, but at this period in time I'm just not there yet.
Again I can see a practical use for Google Spreadsheets. I'm not tied down to any one computer and I can access information whenever I want to look at it. For teachers this means they can do some of the work at home. They can look more closely at a students progress throughout a term and make arrangements with a student if they need more help in a paticular area.
Above this post you will have noticed that I have placed a chart with data conveying how a group of students did over the course of five tests. The the chart I generated to shows the growth of these students made. As you can see, the majority of the students made progress in their scores. The majority of them started out with fairly low scores compared to the other students in the class, but by the last test they had made growth toward joining the other students. It is important that as a teacher I am able to see how each student is doing throughout the year. A spreadsheet allows me to see my students data and than graph that data. This will make it easier for me to see which of my students are struggling and need more of my attention and which students don't need more attention when it comes to their test taking abilities.
If you would like to see more data about this class and the students who made growth over the last five tests, please follow the link below to my spreadsheets and graph.

Teamviewer
The following is a presentation on Teamview. Teamview is a internet based computer application that allows people to have remote control of one computer for sharing files and collaborating on an assignment. The way this application works is one person can be on a computer in a different area and gain control of another persons computer. Now both people can work on one project together from two computers.
Skype
I have never actually used Skype except when my room-mate is talking to her boyfriend who is currently in Iraq. I like Skype for this reason. People who are living in two different cities, states, or countries have the option of staying in touch through a web cam. It's nice to know that I can have a "face to face" converstation with my friend who currently lives in South Korea if I choose to rather than talking through instant message.
Although I see the benefits of Skype in the classroom, I would only want to use it for guest speakers who are unable to come into the classroom. I personally don't feel comfortable using Skype with my students because of privacy issues. Parents may not feel comfortable with their children talking to their teachers online and I wouldn't want to over-step those boundaries.
