Web 2.0 is an online resource available to anyone at anytime. The resources consist of online computer applications that can be used at home or in the classroom. These applications offer a wide range of tools from social networking sites to photos, blogs and personal web pages. The website that offer these applications also offer space where work can be saved. This way the things you create are not taking up room on your own computer and are less likely to be lost or deleted.
The web 2.0 applications that I would like to use in my classroom are:
1) Google Docs - I just started using this application a few months ago and I’ve fallen in love with it. I hate saving papers on my computer because they either disappear or I’ve forgotten the hard copy at home and can’t hand it into a professor. By using Google Docs I can access my information from any computer and pull up papers whenever I want. I would advise my students to use this site to save work that they are working on, so that they also can access their papers from anywhere. No longer could they tell me that they forgot their papers at home and can’t hand the assignment in on time.
2) Voice Thread - This site allows people to upload their power point presentations with pictures and record their voice over the product. I like the idea of using this in my classroom because many students hate to speak in front of others and this allows them to give their presentation and limits the amount of time they have to speak in front of the class. They of course will have to do some talking in front of the class, but the majority can be done on the computer.
